tactile vr™ Featured in Patient Safety & Quality Healthcare

PSQH Nov/Dec 2011

mySmartHealthcare’s tactile vr™ was recently featured in Patient Safety & Quality Healthcare. The article touched on many of the assets of using tactile vr™ in the healthcare field.

Many medical institutions depended on mannequin-based trainings to address patient safety for new nurses, and to provide continuing education for their experienced nurses. While the mannequins have increased in the way of technology, with high-tech displays, sensors and even readouts, they are still a limited instrument.

The limits of mannequins start at the fact that they cannot provide the full instructional experience of a procedure. The learning experience does not provide the “real life” feel of the procedure as it is being performed by the student. Without this feeling, the student is not developing the crucial muscle memory needed to achieve proficiency in the procedure.

tactile vr™ fills in the gaps that are left by mannequin-based trainings, providing students and medical professionals with the entire aspect of the procedure. The combination of eLearning with 3D haptic simulations within the simulator makes for an extremely realistic experience.

The simulator delivers the “real feel” of each step of the procedure, records session results, and the competency data for the trainee and supervisor to review, making an evaluation of work much more accurate.

With mannequin-based trainings, supervisors depend on what they are observing to determine the success of the student. Using tactile vr™, they are provided with statistics and actual data taken from the sessions of each student.

This type of training points out the weaknesses and strengths of each individual, allowing for improvement, and praise, where needed.
